Baby getting better!

By 7sides1face

A week of a bad cold I thought would never end. The baby was suffering badly with his cold and I felt almost as exhausted as he was.

His nose was stuffy so he couldn’t feed properly, but it wasn’t completely blocked so the nose sucker wouldn’t work. It wasn’t hard so it didn’t need saline, but every time he sneezed it almosted reached his chin. Yuck!

Even yuckier was when he dripped while breast feeding. Ewww.

Then came the very bad sounding chesty cough. That was the worst because it was very flemmy and he’d choke (and swollow painfully and/or hit his gag reflex and projectile vomit). He sounded so bad that I’d listen to him gurgle (in a bad way) everytime he went to sleep.

Not that he’d slept well anyway. He’d wake up crying everytime he coughed in his sleep as it was making his throat hurt. I spent hours every night (literally :-( ) standing next to his cot trying to calm him to sleep again. He wasn’t very comfortable sleeping more then an hour in my arms anymore as he’s getting just too big.

The projectile vomit was the worst for him as it ment that he would be hungry a lot but unable to eat/drink much as he couldn’t breathe easily.

It was also the reason I missed the first full week of work I’ve had in 6 months.

I kept him out on Monday cause he was vomiting due to coughing when he woke up and was too bad to bring on the train. He didn’t vomit the rest of the day or that night so I thought he was over the worst.

The next day in the creche I let them know that he could vomit with the coughing but was otherwise just a cold.

2 hours later I had to pick him up as he’d vomited 3 times. The trip to the doctor said it was just a chest infection and he was otherwise ok and did not perscribe antibiotics. He said he’d be feeling better in 2 – 3 days.
The creche said “the doctor called it an infection, therefore it’s infectious and we can’t take him back till he’s better”. I both love and hate this as it means that I’m using all my holidays to take care of what is a minor ailment but at the same time would expect any other parent to do the same.

I love my baby to pieces and all I wanted to do this week was take care of him but most of the time he was bored at home wth just me (he’d gotten used to the fun in the creche) and while very tired a lot of the time needed no special treatment but a lot of nose wiping.

That said, there was a lot of cuddles and kisses and laughs and I’d missed that by going back to work.
If I win the lottery tonight I am sooo handing in my notice. ;-)

Everything I’ve worn this week or he’s worn (including 2 sleeping bags and 2 pj’s in one night (vomit! :-( )) has needed washing due to snot. :-(
All his toys needed extra washing every night. And his carpet will be washed once he’s completely over the cold in case it happens again before that.

And this is all just cold number one of the hundreds of illnesses he’s going to get in the first 6 months in the creche, nor to mind the next 6 years!! I can’t wait till he’s old enough to take medicine that’ll actually help him, e.g. cough bottle.

He didn’t vomit with coughing more then just a little flem all day so I hope this is it and he’ll be getting much better over the weekend.

Creche Monday!! :-D

Sleep tonight!! :-D
